Pakistani Prime Minister: During the “Cup 27”, the world will urge to fulfill its obligations on climate financing

During the meeting of the twenty-seventh session of the parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 27), which begins today in Sharm El Sheikh, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said he will urge the world to fulfil its obligations on climate financing and the losses and damage fund.

According to the official Pakistani News Agency, Shahbaz Sharif stated in a series of tweets on “Twitter” that without financial assistance, developing nations will continue to be vulnerable to the different hazards posed by climate change consequences.

The Pakistani Prime Minister emphasised that it would be illegal to ignore the deadly effects of climate change and that he would demand the achievement of climate justice in his capacity as the current president of the 77th and China Group, the largest negotiating bloc of developing nations within the United Nations system.

The extreme weather events in Pakistan and the African century this year demonstrated the globalisation of climate change, according to Shahbaz Sharif, who noted that (Cope 27) might be a turning moment in humanity’s fight against climate change and global warming.

The Pakistani Prime Minister emphasised that the assessment of post-disaster needs revealed that Pakistan’s road to recovery and rehabilitation could be delayed due to public debt, high global energy and food prices, and the inability to access adaptation funds, stressing that “the world must deal with Pakistan as a study study.”

Pakistani Prime Minister: The globe will be urged to meet its duties regarding climate financing at “Cup 27.”
