The Sultanate of Oman participates in the climate conference in Sharm El -Sheikh

The Sultanate of Oman will send a delegation to the 27th Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, or “COP27,” which will be held in Sharm El Sheikh from November 6 to 18, at the request of Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, Sultan of Oman. The delegation will be led by Eng. Salem bin Nasser Al-Awfi, Minister of Energy and Minerals.

The conference is a component of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, an international agreement that most nations have ratified with the goal of limiting the effects of human activity on the climate. The participating nations made a commitment to return this year to increase the rate at which greenhouse gas emissions and carbon dioxide rates are reduced, including with a reduction in the planet’s temperature increase to less than 1. 5 °C.

The conference has four key objectives: minimising the phenomenon of global warming to less than 2 degrees Celsius, maintaining a goal of 1, and cooperating through the Union of Participating countries in mitigation and adaptation.

It is noteworthy that the Sultanate of Oman announced that it would achieve carbon zero neutrality in 2050, prepare a national plan for it, and establish the Oman Sustainability Center based on the results of the carbon administration laboratory in order to keep up with changes taking place around the world that will reduce carbon emissions.
