Renaissance Dam.. Water expert: The Nile reaches the flood level in this area

Dr. Abbas Sharaki, a geologist and professor of water resources at Cairo University, offered his opinion on the Flood Committee’s daily announcement announcing the conclusion of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam’s third storage.
According to a post by Sharaki on his official Facebook page, the Khartoum station surpassed the flood level of 16 per the daily flood committee statement.

50 metres on August 22; the record was 17. 66 metres on September 6, 2020, however this year’s date was 3 weeks later due to the third storage. Up until the middle of September, a modest increase is anticipated.
He went on: On August 22, 550 million cubic metres of blood were measured in the Blue Nile following the Renaissance Dam near the Sudanese-Ethiopian border (down from last years average of 64 cubic meters).

He explained that despite the risks of flooding, the Blue Nile is expected to flood in the coming days because the passage of the flood waters over the middle passage was delayed on August 11. However, millions of Sudanese currently rely on flood farming, which will change and necessitate the construction of a conventional irrigation network of canals and lifting stations.

In order to replace the silt that will be trapped in the lake of the Renaissance Dam, fertilisers will also need to be used for water in the upcoming years.

The amount of water stored in the Renaissance Dam is currently around 19 billion cubic metres, having temporarily increased by 2 billion cubic metres as a result of heavy rains as usual in August (500 million m 3 / day from the Renaissance Dam). Sharaki noted that the level of flooding in the first half of the season this year is around its normal rate or slightly higher.
