Annual Field of Crosses display back at Kelowna, B.C. park

Almost like a poem’s scene Before Remembrance Day, Kelowna, British Columbia’s City Park has been covered in endless rows of white crosses in the style of Flanders Fields.
The annual Field of Crosses project honours local veterans who gave the ultimate sacrifice.
Veterans, local residents, and mourning families of the dead troops came on Wednesday for the annual display’s opening ceremony.

Janet Cameron, who was present for the event, said, “Our great uncle perished in the First World War.” “He was an officer since the war began while he was away at college. ”
In memory of their great uncle Ian Cameron, who passed away the first weekend of Vimy, Cameron and her family make an effort to visit the exhibit every year.
She claimed that the exhibit enables her family to maintain contact with various relatives who fought for our independence.

“We wouldn’t be here if our grandfather hadn’t come home,” said Cameron. “Our grandfather also served in the war, but he was fortunate to return since he hadn’t yet wed my grandmother.
They were stuck in dirt and ice-cold water for months on end, and I can’t even begin to understand. No, I don’t think we have the capacity to comprehend how awful that was. ”
Ian Cameron’s cross is among the 237 crosses in City Park.

Each cross displays the name, rank, branch, age, and death date of a Kelowna veteran.
The crosses are part of a multi-partner project that also gives nearby students a teaching resource. The exhibit will be on through November 12th.
