Former Matilda named in Football Ferns for upcoming friendlies

Indiah-Paige Riley, a youngster, has been chosen to the Football Ferns for the first time since migrating from Australia to New Zealand.
The Auckland-born 20-year-old, who made her Matildas debut in last year’s 5-2 friendly loss to Germany, stated in July that she wants to represent New Zealand in the 2023 Women’s World Cup.

Riley came to Australia when she was 12 years old and began her professional career with the Brisbane Roar in the A-League Women, where she was nominated for the competition’s young player of the year award in 2019-20.
Riley, who is now playing in Denmark with Fortuna Hjorring, was named to a 22-player team on Tuesday that will face Mexico and ex-Matildas coach Alen Stajcic’s Philippines in friendlies next month.

She’s flexible; she can play defence as well as further up the field, and I’m excited to see where she fits into our lineup. We require this level of competitiveness among the participants.
