Regina business collects items to ‘fill the tent’ for those in need

Many folks in Saskatchewan are turning up their heat and getting out their winter clothing as the cooler weather approaches. That, however, is not an option for everyone.
A Regina company worked with many charities to come up with a unique way to collect supplies for those in need. They filled a tent with necessities including winter coats, boots, socks, and toiletries.
We’re thrilled! It’s like game day for us tomorrow,” said Carrie-Lynn Stryletski, Regina Chip Repair co-owner.

“We’re quite excited. We’re going to have a lot of weather tomorrow, rain or shine, but we’ll be here to fill the tent.
All donations will be sent to Awasiw: A Place of Hope, a non-profit organisation in North Central that works to aid people by distributing warm clothing and other necessities to those in need as well as a place for the homeless to stay warm.

The public is asked to donate jackets, socks, gloves, shoes, food items, toiletries, and feminine hygiene products, according to the organisers.
The Regina Chip Repair has been presenting this event for two years. They used two 15-foot U-Haul trucks and made three journeys to transport the goods to Awasiw the previous year.

“We had such a large turnout… The level of generosity in this town was astounding, and it was overwhelming, said Stryletski. We did, in fact, fill our tent.
An average of 100 to 180 visitors enter through Awasiw’s doors each day. They provide the bare necessities, like a warm place to stay, harm reduction services and programming, as well as distributing donated goods.

Awasiw distributed the donated goods last year starting in mid-November and continuing through January. They anticipated the things to last through the winter, but due to the tremendous demand, they sold out quickly. However, it was a gesture that made them feel better.
It’s incredible. Amazingly generous and considerate people abound in Regina, according to Melanie Kingston, community health director for All Nations Hope Network.

“Though this things only lasted until January, it was unquestionably a massive, enormous help with the number of individuals who came through the doors. It’s desperately needed in the neighbourhood.
On November 5, 2022, from 9 to 4, The Regina Chip Repair will organise a donation event in front of Northgate Mall.
