A 34-year-old murder case was solved thanks to a letter sent to a local newspaper in the United States.
According to information provided by the British Sky News network, Anna Kane, who was 26 years old when her body was discovered on a roadside in Pennsylvania, was slain in October 1988 under unexplained circumstances.
When the US police started looking into the case, they took DNA samples from the slain woman’s clothing. The investigators discovered the presence of traces of this DNA that belonged to a guy, but they could not find any findings that matched anyone.
Additionally, a local newspaper in America called the Reading Eagle ran a front-page article about the murder in 1990, pleading for information to assist solve the case’s mystery.
It wasn’t long before the newspaper received a letter from a mysterious author who introduced himself as an interested party. The message was filled with information about the incident, leading the detectives to suspect that the letter’s author was the murderer.
However, there was no way for the authorities to find him.
A genetic genealogy test that examined DNA samples discovered at the scene of the crime was able to identify the killer after 34 years, thanks to technology established in the field of DNA monitoring.
The results revealed that Scott Grimm, who died of natural causes in 2018 at the age of 58 and is thought to have been 26 at the time of the crime, was the murderer.
