On the sidelines of the Arab Summit .. “Al -Asoumi”, the UN envoy to Libya meets Algeria

The Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Senegalese Abdullah Pateli, and the head of UN support for help in Libya met with the head of the Arab Parliament, Adel bin Abdul Rahman Al-Asoumi, on the fringes of participation in the Arab summit in Algeria.

Al-Aseoui highlighted the support of the Arab Parliament for all the efforts made by the United Nations to end the Libyan crisis while outlining the fundamentals of the position of the Arab Parliament with regard to supporting everything that preserves the sovereignty of the Libyan state over its entire territory and preserves its national unity.

The UN envoy to Libya has a wealth of experience in this area, and during his national, regional, and international work processes, he has participated in efforts to resolve a number of crises. The President of the Arab Parliament expressed hope that he will be able to make progress in this direction.

In addition to the withdrawal of mercenaries and foreign fighters from all Libyan lands, he emphasised that the agreement to hold Libyan elections as soon as possible and to end all forms of foreign intervention throughout the country represent the direct route to achieving security and stability in the Libyan state and establishing the contemporary democratic civil state that the Libyan people are looking forward to.

In response, Patelli stated that despite the fact that his voyage to Libya last September was difficult, it was not difficult for a solution to be found. He also emphasised that his strategy is primarily based on listening to what the Libyan people want. He characterised any attempts to address the problem in Libya as being obstructed and said that it can only be done with the consent of the Libyan people themselves, free from any outside intrusions.

According to “Patelli,” parliamentarians always have a supportive and simple role to play in resolving these crises, based on the margin of flexibility and the relatively large movement compared to the restrictions imposed by official diplomacy in many cases. “Patelli” added that he is relying heavily on the role of the Arab Parliament in supporting its mission in Libya.

In this situation, there have been a number of crises that legislators have been able to help resolve and bring parties together.
He added that he is a follower of the efforts and momentum made by the Arab parliament, especially in the recent period, and that he plans and is enthusiastic that there are many future meetings with the Arab parliament with the aim of facilitating the involvement of parliamentary diplomacy in supporting efforts to solve the Libyan crisis.
