The pursuit of the former Guinean president and dozens of officials on corruption charges

According to “Russia Today,” the authorities in Guinea have started legal investigations into the former president Alpha Conde, who was deposed in a coup in 2021, and more than 180 other key members of his administration.
In a letter to the agents that was made public on Thursday, Justice Minister Alphonse Charles Wright stated that the move to move the follow-up was motivated by allegations of corruption.

In the correspondence, the general agents for the Conakry Appeals Courts and Kanan invited the court to pursue legal action against specific named legal and self-employed individuals on suspicion of “corruption, illegal enrichment, money laundering, forgery, use of forgery in official documents, waste of public funds, and collusion.”

The list of 188 people in the paper includes past leaders whose bank accounts had been frozen on suspicions of these crimes, including former Prime Minister Ibrahim Kasuri Fovana and former President Conde (2010–2021).

The Justice Minister was quoted in the media as saying, “It is necessary to open judicial investigations to determine the source of the various accounts of the accounts without this constituting a preacher by raising their freezing when it is proven that these accounts are not affected by all the illegal enrichment clues.

Because so many former officials were detained as a result of this, it is notable that the army, which seized power in September 2021, declared that it would make fighting corruption in Guinea one of its key proclaimed battles.
