Barrie realtors association looks to raise $22,000 to support of local shelters

The Barrie and District Association of Realtors is starting its second annual A Night in Shelter fundraiser because Canadians always struggle to find affordable housing and shelter.
The association is supporting three shelter-giving Simcoe County groups in a virtual fundraiser from now through November 25.
The Busby Centre, the Lighthouse, and Youth Haven will each receive a portion of the total funds raised.

“A Night of Shelter was born out of the necessity to donate much needed funds to support the provision of shelter for all. According to information we have, there are at least 722 homeless people in the County of Simcoe, said organisation president Luc Woolsey.
In Simcoe County, a single night of refuge typically costs $30.
730 nights at a shelter will cost $22,000, according to the association.
More information about the fundraiser can be found on the association’s website.

“A warm, comfortable place to spend the night releases people from the heavy load of feeling unsafe and unwelcome. A person in need of refuge can receive the emotional, mental, and physical support they need after just one night in shelter, according to a statement from the group.

To fund neighbourhood shelters, the Barrie Realtors Association hopes to raise $22,000.
