South Korea Union reveals Sun’s position on participating in the World Cup

The South Korean Football Association has acknowledged that due to Sun Hyung Min’s operation, they would not be able to add their captain to the roster of the team competing in the World Cup, which begins on November 20.

The Korean player, whose head was violently shocked by the opponent’s player, Shiasil Melmba, during one of the challenges, is scheduled to have face surgery in the coming hours following the damage he sustained under the eye versus Marseille at the conclusion of the Champions League matches.

Sun will have surgery to fix a fracture around his left eye in the next 48 hours, as soon as the swelling subsides, Tottenham said yesterday. However, in South Korea, there are now doubts over the striker’s participation in the World Cup in Qatar in 2022.

“We will decide whether Sun can participate in the World Cup or not after the result of the surgery, we are continuing to cooperate with the Tottenham medical team over Son’s injury,” said an official statement from the South Korean Football Association.
With 35 goals in 104 games, Sun is a key player for South Korea. He won his maiden international match in 2010 and scored seven goals in the qualifications.
