American sanctions on an arms smuggling network between Yemen and Somalia

According to a statement from the US State Department, Washington slapped penalties on a Somalia-based network that was attempting to transfer weapons into ISIS from Iraq and Syria.
According to the statement, the network mostly operates between Yemen and Somalia and maintains connections with other terrorist organisations like the Youth Movement and Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.

The statement stated, “Many of the persons in question also engage in other illicit activities, such as piracy and environmental crimes, showing their integration with unlawful networks operating in the region.

ISIS in Somalia is increasingly focusing on “generating revenues in East Africa, while continuing to launch terrorist attacks against civilians, and obtains a large portion of its funding by extorting local communities for financing and recruitment, where the group punishes, intimidates, and assassinates businessmen and civilians,” according to the statement.
