Germany and Italy’s foreign ministers discuss the issue of immigration during the Group of Seven meeting

Analina Perbuk, the new foreign minister for Germany, met with Antonio Tajani, the right-leaning Georgeta Meloni’s deputy and the new foreign minister of Italy, on Thursday.
Tajani, who previously held the position of Speaker of the European Parliament, urged for increased coordination at the level of the European Union during the discussion.
“It highlighted the Italian stance on NGO ships.

Following the discussion, the new Italian foreign minister posted on Twitter that “they must respect the European bases.” Tajani was referring to several rescue vessels operated by NGOs that are now waiting off the coast of Italy to be assigned a secure port for them following the rescue of roughly 1,000 immigrants from their experience at sea.
Group of Seven foreign ministers gathered in Germany on Thursday for a two-day session.

The meeting was officially started by Perpuk in the municipal building, which had previously hosted the catastrophic thirty-year war’s terrible peace negotiations in the Westphalia region in 1648.
The two-day conference’s main topics of discussion include the Russian invasion of Ukraine and its effects. According to Perbook, the Group of Seven major industrial nations will coordinate assistance to sustain Ukraine throughout the winter.

Perpuk said that the host city of Monster and its historical hall, known as the Peace Hall, embodies peace and the rule of law, which are concepts that resonate with the purpose of the current group meeting. The significance of the pact signed in the seventeenth century, according to Perpuk, led her to purposefully choose Monster as the conference’s host city.

“The idea of peaceful collaboration between sovereign and equal rights in rights was formed by the Treaty of Westphalia, and thus the foundations of international law were established.”
Perbook added that the ideas related to the sovereignty of each country, equality and peace historically linked to Salam and Westphalia are now being attacked by Russia in a brutal aggressive war against Ukraine and the international regime.

Germany will hold the rotating presidency of the Group of Seven, which also includes France, Italy, Britain, Japan, Canada, and the United States, until the end of this year.

During the Group of Seven summit, the foreign ministers of Germany and Italy discuss the topic of immigration.
