Ottawa police investigating alleged leaks to convoy protesters, interim chief says

According to Ottawa’s acting police chief, his department is looking into claims that some of its members sent information to “Freedom Convoy” protest organisers last winter.
Keith Wilson, a lawyer for some of the organizers, testified at the Public Order Emergency Commission on Wednesday that they regularly received leaks from sympathetic officers about the operational plans of police.

The Ottawa Police Service opened an internal investigation on Wednesday evening, according to interim chief Steve Bell, who said the testimony contained “new material.”
At a session of the special parliamentary committee looking into how the federal government used the Emergencies Act to end the weeks-long rally, Bell confirmed the investigation.
The committee study is occurring concurrently with the commission’s open hearings.

According to the Emergencies Act’s checks and balances, both probes are mandated by law.

According to acting chief, Ottawa police are looking into reports of leaks to demonstrators’ convoys.
