The unveiling of a statue of the former German national team striker in his hometown

Today, Thursday, in Nordlingen, the town where the late striker was born, a bronze statue honouring the legendary German football player Jerd Muller was presented.
When West Germany defeated the Netherlands 2/1 in the 1974 World Cup final, Muller, one of German football’s all-time greats, scored the winning goal. West Germany went on to win the tournament.

The memorial service for Muller, who passed away in April 2021, was held on his 77th birthday in the presence of his widow and old teammates from Bayern Munich, including Oli Hoeness and Sib Mayer.
It’s time for him to say what Gerd Muller accomplished in his brief life, how he moved a country and its families even after his passing, and how he inspired entire generations.

The statue was originally going to be erected outside the town limits, but after the objections, it is now located where Muller used to live—in the old city.
