The cost of a tonne of sugar right now
Hassan al -Fandi, head of the Sugar Division of the Food Industries Chamber of the Federation of Industries, confirmed last week that there are unjustified rises in sugar prices in the local market, which led to the spread of more than one price.
He argued that the price of sugar has not yet been clear to either the industry or the general public, urging the Ministry of Supply to step in, pump more into the market, and combat any price increases that might result from irrational or unrealistic behaviour on the part of some. He also noted that the supply of sugar is relatively declining as a result of some recent storage, along with the decline in purchasing power.
