After 14 years with the first squad, Barcelona defender Gerard Pique declared on Thursday that he would retire from football following the conclusion of the upcoming Almeria game.
Before transferring to Manchester United in the club’s Sunni groups, Gerard Pique grew up at the renowned Barcelona Academy “La Masia.” He later returned to Barcelona in the summer of 2008 as part of a revolution led by the new manager, Pep Guardiola.
This year, Pique dealt with issues both within and beyond the stadium. He announced his breakup with Shakira, his Colombian companion, amid allegations of betrayal, and later left the Catalan club’s starting lineup.
Pique published a visual clip through his official account, in which he announced that he will leave Barcelona after the upcoming Barcelona match against Almeria, stressing, “I will return to the club again,” indicating that he intends to run for the club’s presidential elections in 2026.
Pique played more than 600 games for Barcelona, winning the King’s Cup, Super Cup, and other Champions League and Spanish League competitions.
Following his issues with Shakira, Pique declares his retirement from football.
