The UN Security Council extends the task of the European Peace Conservation Force in Bosnia

Despite Russian objections, the UN Security Council unanimously supported the extension of the mandate given to the European peacekeeping mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The approval of the Council of the European Union allows to extend the task of the European Union’s military power in Bosnia and Herzegovina for a year in order to ensure the implementation of the “Dietton” agreement, which put an end to three years of war in Bosnia.

According to Anna Evettefliva, the Permanent Representative of the United Nations, her nation supports the extension decision because it is “purely technical” and “uncomfortable.”
“At the same time, we want to express our concern about the doubling, which is still unjustified and incomprehensible to many European Union’s strength in Bosnia Herzegovina in 2022,” she added.

The European Union army increased the number of soldiers stationed in Bosnia and Herzegovina from 600 to around 1,500 on February 24.
In April, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinkkin reported that Western countries are considering alternative solutions to ensure that an international force remains to maintain stability in Bosnia if Russia prevented the matter at the United Nations..

The European Peace Conservation Force’s mission in Bosnia is expanded by the UN Security Council.
