Libya .. The State Council votes to prevent their candidacy for the elections!

In order to keep the conflict between it and the parliament on a constitutional basis and make it challenging to set a date for the elections, the Supreme State Council of Libya unanimously resolved to prohibit dual nationality and military candidacy for the presidential elections.

During a two-day public session, the State Council came to an understanding and accord among its members on Wednesday evening addressing all the supports of the constitutional basis on which the country’s elections will be place.

The State Council members also agreed that the candidate cannot be a citizen of another country and that the military should not run for office within a year of resigning. However, the parliament will not accept these conditions because it demands that everyone allow candidates and that no citizen be excluded or denied the opportunity to run for the presidency.

As a result of the ongoing disagreements, as well as because of the division of the executive authority and the entry of two governments engaged in a conflict over the rule of law, the State Council will be clinging to its position and the difficulty of putting the nation back on the railway of the elections and finding a way out of the political crisis in Libya, which reached a real blockage stage.

The failure of the most recent elections, which were set for December 2021, was primarily due to disagreements over the requirements for presidential candidates in Libya. These disagreements make it nearly impossible to hold new elections until Parliament and the Supreme Council of State have reached an agreement on the constitutional framework that will serve as the foundation for restarting the election process.

Despite international pressure and attempts to mediate a reconciliation between the political parties in Libya, he flung this conflict over the country’s scene and brought it back to the square of violence, instability, and division.
