Manitoba teams up with former Winnipeg police chief to enhance community safety

In order to improve community safety, Manitoba is collaborating with the former head of the Winnipeg Police Service and the former inspector general for policing in Ontario, according to a statement made on Wednesday by Justice Minister Kelvin Goertzen.
Goertzen stated, “I am proud to announce this effort to promote uniform, provincial public safety training programmes as part of our government’s commitment to assisting police services to keep Manitobans safe.

Devon Clunis, a former head of the WPS, has been given a one-year contract by the province to oversee the creation of the Manitoba Public Safety Training Steering Committee, which will involve working with local governments, police departments, and other partners in public safety.

“Devon Clunis is renowned as a skilled transformational leader who is passionate about bringing community stakeholders together to make a difference and I am confident his extensive knowledge and experience will provide a strong foundation for this new strategy,” Goertzen said.
The minister said, “Clunis will also serve as a facilitator and advisor for community safety and well-being planning for communities across the province.”

The policing and community safety landscape is currently undergoing considerable upheaval. To guarantee our communities are secure and healthy well into the future, careful effort is necessary, according to Clunis.
To guarantee that policing in our province advances as a model of excellence in policing and community safety, I’m honoured to work with the community and policing partners.
