28 original photos of the Tutankhamun cemetery .. on the centenary of its discovery

The centennial of the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb in the Egyptian Valley of the Kings on November 4th, 2022, will be a significant event in the history of archaeology. The amazing nature of the cemetery and its treasures presented an unprecedented insight into what was the royal burial in the modern kingdom and made Tutankhamun one of the most famous Pharaohs in history.

The official photographer for the 1922 inauguration of Tutankhamun’s cemetery by Howard Carter and the Lord Carnerifon was Harry Burton (1879–1940). Here, we present some of Burton’s original works on a significant event when the king’s tomb was opened. Burton was one of the most well-known archaeological photographers of his day.
