Meghan Markle chats motherhood with ‘dear friend’ Sophie Grégoire on podcast

In the most recent episode of Meghan Markle’s Archetypes podcast, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, the wife of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, joined a long list of illustrious women in discussing the demands and expectations placed on women in the modern world.

The podcast, which debuted on Tuesday, covered conversations with the theme of “Good Wife/Bad Wife, Good Mom/Bad Mom,” examining topics including loneliness and the unrealistic expectations many moms and wives place on themselves.
The episode opened with Markle recalling a visit she had with Grégoire Trudeau and their children over the summer — they spent a day at Prince Harry and Markle’s Montecito pool, chatting and drinking wine, while the kids enjoyed the water.

When Markle was employed and residing in Toronto roughly seven years ago, she first met her “close friend,” Grégoire Trudeau.
The reconnection, according to Markle, was unhurried and low-key.
This wasn’t our day to be the wives and mothers who are flawlessly dressed in pearls, updos, and demure grins, added Markle.
“This was the other version of us both with wild curly hair and swimsuits and loose linen and huge belly laughs.

Huge hugs with our young children, soft girl talk whispers on the patio, thrilled like absolute schoolgirls.
We were simply having a great time.
Markle was all smiles when talking about Grégoire Trudeau, recalling how she sent her voice messages of encouragement and “small meditations” during her first pregnancy.

The words of support were particularly poignant at the time, according to Markle, as they came amid a barrage of extremely unfavourable headlines from the savage British media.
She said that over the years, she had depended on Grégoire Trudeau’s counsel.
So she’s not merely a wife or a first lady, the Duchess added. She is the kind of person that genuinely values her friendships. She is familiar with what it’s like to be both a mother and a partner, and more especially, what it’s like to be both in the spotlight.

“And also how oppressive expectation-related shame may be.”
The two discussed the scrutiny they have each experienced throughout the years.
“I don’t want to get too emotional, but the stress and anxiety that people are feeling these days — whether it’s the pandemic, whether it’s because you’re a struggling mom and your kids can’t make it to school, whatever your situation is — the stress and anxiety is real,” revealed Grégoire Trudeau.

Additionally, our sense of community has absolutely blossomed. The pair talked about how lonely motherhood can be and agreed that the “villages” that were once available to help mothers raise their children have diminished over time. “We have sisters who can mother, we have aunts who can mother, we have friends who can mother; mothering is a way of being, it’s not just biological,” she continued.
After that, Markle asked Grégoire Trudeau to sum up her younger self in three words.

Grégoire Trudeau retorted, “Sensitive, brave, and hilarious.”
Grégoire Trudeau offered the same three words when asked to sum up who she is today, adding, “I’ve been working so hard to get back to that little Sophie inside of me. I eventually discovered her despite all the hardships and my personal problems. So I’m going to continue to take care of her.

Markle had high praise for her longtime friend, saying that Grégoire Trudeau is “emblematic of strength that comes from embracing your humanity, even in the face of all these family and home and public pressures. ”.
