Portuguese team Porto defeated Spanish club Atletico Madrid 2-1 on Tuesday in the final round of the group stage to bid the latter the championship in last place, propelling Porto to the top of the second group of the European Champions League.
For the first time in the history of their Champions League participation, Atletico Madrid finished last in their group.
After drawing poorly with the Belgian Bruges Club, who advanced with Porto to the round of 16, Bayer Leverkusen made the decision to play in the European League under the guidance of his Spanish coach Xabi Alonso.
