26% decline in Russian wheat exports year on year

Moscow-based agricultural consultancy Sov Icon said on Tuesday that Russian wheat exports in July and August, the first two months of the 2022-2023 season, amounted to 5.9 million tons, down 27 percent from the same period a year ago.

It added that this was the lowest volume of Russian wheat exports in these two months since the 2017-2018 season.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday that Moscow was committed to the agreement on grain exports from Ukraine.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova added that her country is fully committed to this agreement, which was reached and concluded last month.

A UN-sponsored agreement struck in Istanbul between Russia and Ukraine in July provides for the opening of safe passages for ships carrying grain and food from Ukrainian ports through the Black Sea.
