Argentina prepares to restrict imports amid foreign exchange shortage

A source told Reuters on Tuesday that the Argentine government will launch three measures in the coming days with the aim of restricting imports and maintaining the declining foreign exchange reserves at the central bank.

The measures come as new data on Monday showed a trade deficit in July of $437 million, the second in a row for Latin America’s third-largest economy.

Argentina’s exports increased in the first seven months of this year by 22.4 percent compared to the same period in 2021, while imports jumped 44.6 percent.
