Boy airlifted to Halifax hospital after stairway collapse, police say

According to the New Glasgow Regional Police, a portion of a stairwell collapsed Tuesday morning, injuring two people, one of whom had to be evacuated to Halifax.
Police officers were alerted to the collapse of a small apartment building on Washington Street in New Glasgow just before 8 a.m., according to public information officer Const. Ken MacDonald.
According to him, the collapse took place between the second and third floors.

A 44-year-old guy with non-life-threatening injuries was sent to the hospital. A seven-year-old kid who had suffered critical injuries was also taken to the hospital and eventually flown to Halifax.
MacDonald was unable to give an update on the condition of the youngster.
The cause of the collapse has not been determined and the investigation is ongoing, he said..
