In search of a dirty bomb … a UN team inspects two Ukrainian sites

After a request submitted by Kyiv, experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency inspected two sites in Ukraine, today, Tuesday, that Russia identified them and accused the Ukrainian authorities of planning to launch “dirty bombs”.
According to Raphael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Kyiv’s request for inspections to look for signs of the alleged “dirty bomb” will soon be fulfilled.

President Vladimir Putin and other important figures in Russia have accused Ukraine of producing such explosive devices that disperse radioactive waste.
The Russians further stated that the Ukrainians intended to pose as Russians while using the suspected explosives.

In a letter to the UN Security Council last week, Vasily Nippinsia, the Russian ambassador there, said that a mining business and a nuclear research facility in Ukraine “got direct orders from the dictatorship (Ukrainian President Voludmirir) Zellinski to construct such a dirty bomb.”
The Ukrainian government, for its part, denied that Moscow was trying to use its preparations to explode a dirty bomb as an excuse to justify further escalation of hostilities.

It is noteworthy that since the beginning of the Russian military assault on Ukrainian territory on February 24, concerns about the potential for unintended consequences have grown internationally, particularly given the Kremlin’s repeated threats to use nuclear weapons in response to any threat.
