Coach Roberto Martinez, in statements published by the British newspaper “The Athletic”, indicated that he has not yet ruled out the possibility of Lukaku’s participation in the World Cup, explaining that his position is still mysterious, after the injury he suffered in Inter training.
Romelu Lukaku is a player who has no alternatives, and he emphasised that his absence from the World Cup will surely have an impact on the Belgian national team.
Martinez, who oversaw Belgium’s technical team at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, emphasised that Lukaku’s absence would force him to alter his offensive strategy.
After a two-month sabbatical from Inter, where the Belgian goal scorer played in only 5 games across all competitions, including the Italian League and the Champions League, Lukaku suffered a knee level injury upon his return to the football fields.
