Sharm El-Sheikh Museum, Kafr El-Sheikh Museum celebrate their 2nd opening anniversary

CAIRO – 1 November 2022: On October 31, the Sharm El-Sheikh Museum in South Sinai Governorate and the Kafr El-Sheikh Museum in Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate each celebrated their second anniversaries of opening. Both museums offered free admission to all of their guests.

A number of activities were planned as part of the celebration at each museum, according to Moamen Othman, head of the museums sector, to foster a sense of community and raise awareness of tourism and archaeology among all facets of society.

A temporary archaeological exhibition put on by the Supreme Committee was unveiled as part of the museum’s festivities and concurrently with the staging of the climate conference [COP27] in the city, according to Myriam Edward, general supervisor of Sharm El-Sheikh Museum. For one month, the show will be on display.
According to Edward, the museum recently held artistic and educational workshops, the results of which were displayed in an art exhibition.

The museum also planned a fresh batch of kid-friendly educational and artistic programmes and offered musical and artistic performances, some of which were influenced by the Sinai heritage.

For his part, Director General of the Kafr El-Sheikh Museum Osama Farid Othman reviewed the activities of the museum’s celebration, which included the opening of a temporary exhibition entitled “Coptic Creations,” comprising 10 pieces, most prominently the manuscript of the Four Gospels, an icon of the Virgin Mary carrying baby Jesus, and an icon for one of the saints. The brief exhibition will be on display till January 20.

A series of lectures on museums, their function in community development, and the history of the Kafr el-Sheikh Museum were also delivered as part of the event.
It is important to note that the Sharm El-Sheikh Museum is South Sinai’s first museum dedicated to Egyptian antiquities. It was designed to be a cultural investment center and a forum for human civilizations throughout the ages, with the aim of integrating recreational tourism and cultural tourism.

Regarding the Kafr El-Sheikh Museum, it was established within the framework of the cooperation protocol signed by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate in 2017 to complete the construction works of the museum after they were put on hold in 2011. The museum is situated next to Kafr El-Sheikh University.

Kafr El-Sheikh Museum and Sharm El-Sheikh Museum commemorate their second openings.
