Mikati: Our goal is to elect a president in the fastest time and to bring the Lebanese and not separate them

In a press release to the Sky News Arabia satellite channel on Tuesday, Lebanese Prime Minister Naguib Mikati stated: “Our goal is to elect a president as quickly as possible and to bring the Lebanese and not split them.”
According to Sky News Arabia, Lebanese President Michel Aoun left Baabda Palace after his stint as president came to an end.
Before departing his position at Baabda Palace, Lebanese President Michel Aoun signed a proclamation announcing the resignation of the Naguib Mikati administration.

According to media reports, Lebanese President Michel Aoun will step down today, Sunday, and leave Lebanon in a state of disarray.
Aoun comes out of his office, where he bid farewell to the senior employees, then a battalion of the Republican Guard is being performed by greeting and playing the music of the army, the national anthem and the music of the honor of the guard.

Before leaving in the presidential car to Baabda Palace amid the crowd of depositors, Aoun is due to arrive at a special platform in front of the citizens who will take part in his departure and hear a message on this occasion.

Prior to this, the Council members expressed their strong support for Lebanon’s stability, security, territorial integrity, sovereignty, and political independence in a statement, calling on the Lebanese government to “implement known, necessary, and tangible reforms quickly and transparently,” in accordance with Security Council resolutions and the Security Council President’s decisions regarding the situation in Lebanon.

They emphasised that “these reforms are important to addressing the legitimate needs and aspirations of the Lebanese people with regard to the critical security, economic, social, and humanitarian difficulties the country is currently confronting.

The members pointed to “the importance of holding free, fair and comprehensive elections in 2022 transparently and according to the planned schedule, in a manner that guarantees the full, equal and targeted participation of women as a candidate and a vice in the elections,” stressing the need to “conduct a quick, independent, fair, comprehensive and transparent investigation in the two explosions that shook Beirut in 4 August 2020.

Due to the serious gasoline crisis and tank kidnappings that have occurred recently in Lebanon, the Lebanese army has announced that it will transport fuel stations and warehouses, seize any concealed supplies, and distribute them to the populace.

Mikati: We want to bring the Lebanese together, not divide them, and elect a president as soon as possible.
