‘Significant’ gas leak in northeast Calgary spurs evacuation of several homes: CFD

On Monday night, a natural gas leak in northeast Calgary forced fire officials to restrict some local roadways and evacuate a number of residences.
According to the Calgary Fire Department, the leak in the 100 block of Tarawood Lane N. E. was discovered at around 7 o’clock in the evening. About 30 minutes later, the process of evacuating 26 homes began with transit buses being brought in nearby to keep people warm.
Soon after 10:00 p.m.

According to the CFD, ATCO was able to pinpoint the leak and switch off the gas line, allowing homeowners to go back to their houses.
A CFD representative informed Global News just before 9 p.m. that the leak was situated at the intersection of Taravista Drive N. E. and Tarawood Lane N. E.
He stated that it was thought that building work had burst a two-inch natural gas line. The official also mentioned that ATCO had brought in large equipment to try and locate the leak’s source.
It is a substantial leak, according to Batt.

A CFD hazmat crew was also sent to the area, according to Frederick, to assist with the problem.
Until all impacted residents were eventually permitted to return home, evacuees were instructed to go to Taradale School, located at 170 Taravista Dr. N. E.
The CFD said that as of 10 p.m., repairs to the damaged gas line were still being made.
