For unknown reasons … arrests of the energy police in Iraq

During the past hours, the Iraqi street was built with the news of the arrest of the Director of Energy Police, Major General Ghanem Al -Husseini, for reasons that have not yet been known.
But reliable sources claimed that “the Interior Minister Abdul Amir Al-Shamri issued an order to arrest Al-Husseini, stressing that the reasons are still unclear.

According to “Shafaq News,” a security source also confirmed that the South Oil Regiment commander was also detained today, Tuesday, on the Interior Minister’s orders.
Many Iraqis have argued that the illegal smuggling of oil from the southern regions is the cause, although the relevant authorities have not yet provided any formal explanation.

It is significant that these arrests take place just days after the ministers in the newly formed administration led by Muhammad Shi’a Al-Sudani, who last week promised to vigorously combat corruption in the nation, made a similar commitment.
It also came about two weeks after the explosion of what was known as the theft of the century, as some companies and officials were involved in the theft and embezzlement of nearly two and a half billion dollars from the Tax Authority trusts, in the Rafidain Government Bank.

With the Sudanese taking on his duties and emphasising his determination to combat widespread corruption in various state agencies and sectors, not to mention quotas and the division of spoils between parties, this subject has sparked popular attention in the nation.

It is significant that Iraq is placed 157th (out of 180) in the Transparency International Index for “Perspectors of Corruption,” as it is frequently singled out for prosecution in corruption cases, along with subordinate centre officials and young workers.
