Pelosi attack suspect wanted to ‘break her kneecaps’

According to officials, the man accused of assaulting Nancy Pelosi’s husband Paul Pelosi said police he intended to take the US House Speaker hostage and “crush her kneecaps,” according to a report released on Monday (local time).
According to a federal affidavit submitted in court, David DePape, 42, confronted a sleeping Paul Pelosi in the couple’s San Francisco bedroom last week.

Days after police said DePape stormed into the Pelosi home and hit the Democratic leader’s 82-year-old husband in the head with a hammer, federal prosecutors have brought two counts against him.
He needed surgery for a fractured skull after the attack left him gravely hurt, and he also sustained damage to his wrists and arms.
DePape is charged federally with influencing, impeding, or retaliating against a federal official by threatening or injuring a family member.

Additionally, he is charged with one count of attempting to kidnap a US official while they were carrying out their official duties.
The San Francisco district attorney is also expected to file state criminal charges against DePape at the same time as the federal allegations are being made public. He was arrested on Friday (local time) on suspicion of attempted murder, elder abuse and burglary and is expected to be arraigned on state charges tomorrow.

Assailant was targeting the Democratic leader when he stormed into the couple’s home and accosted Paul Pelosi, according to San Francisco’s district attorney Brooke Jenkins, who also refuted conspiracy theories about the attack.
