Lavrov appreciates Syria’s position on Ukraine… and a message to Israel

During a joint news conference with Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Miqdad, Lavrov stated that Russia respects Syria’s position on Ukraine, adding that NATO is spreading to the east and breaching its promises.
He went on to say, “We want to strengthen bilateral relations between Russia and Syria, and we’re willing to help Damascus improve relations with the rest of the Arab world.”

Lavrov emphasised the need of returning displaced Syrians and without politicising the issue, urging Israel to respect Syrian territorial integrity.
He went on to say, “We strongly condemn the Israeli airstrikes on Syria,” stressing that Washington backs Syrian separatists.

Syria’s Foreign Minister, for his part, stated that relations with Russia are important, adding that Moscow has assisted Syria in its fight against terrorism for the past ten years and expressing his country’s support for Russia’s action in Ukraine.

Al-Miqdad urged some nations to refrain from intervening in Syria’s domestic affairs, pointing out that Washington contributes to the theft of Syrian people’s wealth. The Middle East cannot be settled unless US military depart from Syria.
He also urged on Turkey to leave Syria, cease supporting armed factions, and abandon the role it has played in recent years.
