The President’s Health Adviser issues a number of recommendations regarding the localization of the Egyptian drug

The President’s Advisor for Health and Prevention, Dr. Mohamed Awad Taj Al-Din, made a number of proposals at the closing of the Drug and Health Care Conference in the new Republic. In addition, the city of medicine in Egypt will localise the production of some oncology drugs, biotechnology goods, and pharmaceutical raw materials, and the state will provide all necessary assistance to aid in this relocation.

The second recommendation, he said, is to utilise the scientific and research capabilities of Egyptian research institutions and universities, as well as to take advantage of the human cadres in these institutions and universities to participate in supporting businesses toward innovation in the pharmaceutical and medical device industries, and the third recommendation, he said, is that scientific medical associations be held in Egypt because of its unique advantages.

For his part, Dr. Ali Aouf, head of the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce’s Medicines Division, stated that Law No. 3 of 2022 exempting inputs used in the pharmaceutical industry from value-added tax is a critical step in the framework for the production of drugs in Egypt because it is necessary for the production of effective substances used in pharmaceuticals and cannot be done without.

During his presidency of the third session of the conference, “Medicine and Health Care in the New Republic”, which came under the title of customs and taxes and its role in supporting the drug industry, he explained that the inputs of the drug industry were exempted.
Dr.

Hossam Abdullah, the assistant head of the Egyptian Pharmaceutical Authority for Support and Follow -up of Markets, said that the drug industry in Egypt is national security because it affects the patient’s life, and we are also looking at it as a strategic industry and therefore we attach to the importance it deserves.
He clarified that the speed of performance and the speed of registration stages are two goals of the authority in this regard.

Due to the domestic pharmaceutical industries’ coverage of Egypt’s medications during the Corona Crisis, Abdullah emphasised the necessity of further localising these sectors and their increased competitiveness.

He said that in order to assist the localization of the pharmaceutical business, the authority worked along three axes, leading to the establishment of the professional development centre and the reference laboratory, which both carry out all necessary research.

He reaffirmed the complete support of all pharmaceutical companies working to localise the pharmaceutical industries, adding that Egypt has a ready-to-use infrastructure and numerous factories, and that the domestic companies have distributed medications to 42 countries, including India in 2020 and 2021.

The President’s Health Advisor makes some suggestions for the localization of the Egyptian medication.
