Pique and Ramos on the initial list of Spain in preparation for the World Cup

According to Spanish press reports, Luis Enrique, the coach of Spain, first selected Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain defenders Gerard Pique and Sergio Ramos for the Matador team in preparation for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar in November.
Pique and Ramos submitted their names on a preliminary list of 55 players for Spain prior to the World Cup, according to the publication “Marca,” although the Spanish Federation did not formally release the list to the media.

Pique announced in 2018 after the World Cup in Russia his retirement from international play, but “Marca” stressed that the veteran defender is aiming to participate in the World Cup Qatar.
Ramos last played for Spain in March of 2021 while he was a member of Real Madrid.

The newspaper noted that it is unlikely that Pique or Ramos will make the final selection since Enrique prioritises the defensive core of Emeric Laport, Niago Martinez, Bau Torres, Eric Garcia, Diego Llorente, and Joelmon.
On November 11, Enrique is expected to reveal the final roster of 25 or 26 players that will compete in the finals.
Spain competes in the World Cup’s fifth group, which also features Japan, Costa Rica, and Germany.

Pique and Ramos are on Spain’s original World Cup preparation roster.
