Former Czech Prime Minister Babis announces his candidacy for the presidency

André Babis, a former Czech prime minister, declared his candidacy for president on Sunday.
Two and a half months prior to the elections, the millionaire politician formally declared his campaign for the top job in the nation.
“The polls don’t offer me a lot of chances, but I fight,” said Babis. Babis was supposed to officially declare his candidacy months ago.
Currently, the creator of the “Annu” party is being tried as a businessman for aiding and abetting fraud.

In a preliminary reaction, Czech Prime Minister Peter Viela said on Twitter: “In democratic countries, a politician resigns when he was accused, but Andrei Babis is eager for immunity in the castle,” referring to the Prague Castle, the seat of the Czech government.
A survey by the Steim/Mark Institute for Opinion Research approximately a month ago found that 23% of respondents supported Peter Pavel, a former general and head of the NATO Military Committee.

Babis came in second by 17%, and Danus Nerodova, the former president of the university, came in third with a score of 14%.
The presidential election will take place on January 13 and 14, 2023, with a re-run following two weeks later.
It is noteworthy that the current president, Milos Ziman, is spending his second and final term as president of the Czech Republic, which ends next March. He is not permitted to seek for office again.

The president of the Czech Republic performs mostly representative duties but is also a significant figure in public opinion.
