Guterres wants to save the grain agreement after Russia’s suspension of its participation

After Russia withdrew from it due to drone attacks on its fleet in the area, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres indicated his wish to keep the grain export arrangement from Ukraine across the Black Sea.
Without going into specifics, UN spokesman Stephen Dujarric stated on Sunday in New York that Guterres is “extremely worried” and is making several contacts in an effort to reverse the suspension of the accord agreed last July.

For the purpose of attending the Arab summit in Algeria, Guterres postponed his departure.
Russia notified the suspension of the grain agreement yesterday, on Saturday.
Josep Borrell, the European Union’s Supreme Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, denounced the continuation of a siege on Ukrainian grain exports earlier today, Sunday.

In response to the global food crisis brought on by Russia’s war in Ukraine, Borrell said on Twitter that the country’s decision to halt participation in the Baltic Sea accord has put at jeopardy the principal export route for grains and fertilisers.
While speaking with Guterres about the issue, Borrell tweeted: “I contacted (Guterres) to discuss the Black Sea agreement and coordinate business to assure the continuation of Ukraine’s sale of grains and fertiliser.

Borrell emphasised this “To allow the naval corridor to reach the rest of the world, Russia must adhere to the deal. The European Union contributes to the effort to address the world food problem.”
Analina Perbuk, the foreign minister of Germany, urged Russia to uphold its end of the grain agreement while she was in Berlin. She stated: “There are millions of hungry people in the globe, and Russia has once more jeopardised the safety of grain ships. This must stop.

Turkey stated that it still wished to support the continuation of the grain arrangement despite the Russian blockade.
On Sunday night, the Turkish Ministry of Defense declared that talks with relevant parties will go on.
At the Istanbul Joint Coordination Center, there are still Russian actors in attendance.

After Russia’s withdrawal, Guterres wants to keep the grain accord alive.
