Egypt contracts to buy 150 thousand tons of sugar from abroad

The General Authority for Supply Commodities of the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade announced its agreement to purchase 150 000 tonnes of sugar to increase the strategic reserve of the commodity. Of the contracted quantity, 100 000 tonnes are expected to arrive in December 2022 and 50 000 tonnes are expected to arrive in January 2023.

The commission indicated in a statement today, Sunday, that the contracted amount of which will arrive in December 2022, and another 50 thousand tons will arrive in January 2023.

The General Authority for Supply Commodities in Egypt had launched a practice to import 50 thousand tons of raw cane sugar from any origin for the Egyptian Sugar and Integrated Industries Company account.
According to the Supply Commodities Authority, suppliers must submit their offers for consideration and on the basis of payment with a 180-day grace period, and the authority will select from them.

Offers have to be submitted by October 29 for delivery between January 1 and December 16 or 31.

This comes at a time when Dr.

Ali Al-Muselhi, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, declared that market oversight would be tightened to prevent any increase in arbitrary prices brought on by the increased pumping of goods into consumer complexes. He added that an expanded meeting with producers of food commodities, senior commercial chains, wholesaler and a half, and a sentence to increase production and supply of oil, sugar, and rice would take place tomorrow.

It should be mentioned that the sugar and integrative industries company continues to make sugar from sugar cane, and that as of 15/2/2022, production of sugar in beet companies will begin. 3 million and 321 thousand tonnes of farmers have been contacted thus far.

Egypt has agreements to purchase 150 thousand tonnes of sugar internationally.
