Klopp rues lack of control as Liverpool come up short again

England’s LIVERPOOL, Oct. 29 (Reuters) – Juergen Klopp, the manager of Liverpool, was left wondering why his team hasn’t been able to dominate games this year after a late goal gave struggling Leeds United a 2-1 victory at Anfield on Saturday.
After conceding early, Mohamed Salah helped Liverpool recover to even the score. They enjoyed almost 70% possession and had 10 shots on target but still they came away empty-handed as a 29-game unbeaten run at home was ended.

“Without a doubt, that was a setback. I think we started off extremely well, and then we gave up a crazy goal,” Klopp said to Sky Sports.
“We tied the score, but for some reason it didn’t restore our security. We had trouble controlling the game and lost way too many balls, the German said.
“The boys tried, we had good possession and had big chances but, in the end, if it is 1-1 and you defend the situation around the second goal like this, you leave everything open.

A total of 22 scoring opportunities were produced by Klopp’s team, but injuries and illness have cost them several vital players, most notably in the attack where they are without Diogo Jota.
“This season, Harvey (Elliott) has excelled for us. He got out to a strong start, but he faltered. Thiago has been ill, up front the same (players) play all the time – they are the three strikers we have left,” Klopp said glumly.

Prior to next month’s World Cup, Liverpool still has league games against Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton. These games cannot come soon enough as Klopp looks for solutions to his team’s inconsistent performance in the Premier League.
“Injury-wise, we had issues right away (at the start of the season). Starting on the first day, players had to participate. It’s our situation and it means we have to help ourselves, and that is what we will do,” he said..

Klopp regrets Liverpool’s lack of control as they lose once more.
