The Libyan army has announced the downing of an unidentified drone near Benghazi’s Benina base.

Major General Khaled al-Mahjoub, Director of the Moral Guidance Department in the Libyan Army, released a brief statement on Monday in which he reported that the Libyan National Army had successfully targeted and shot down an unidentifiable drone near the Benina base in the eastern city of Benghazi.

In another setting, the Libyan Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Najla Al-Manqoush, reaffirmed the country’s rejection of any method or cause that might result in political division in Libya. She also noted the government’s efforts to impose security, abjure all forms of violence, and hold elections as soon as possible that would satisfy the aspirations of the Libyan people.

This took place at Al-meeting Manqoush’s with US Deputy Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Barbara I Leaf at the US State Department, where they discussed developments in Libya’s political situation and lauded the UN mission’s efforts, according to the Libyan News Agency.

The US Deputy Secretary of State expressed her country’s full support for a political process that results in stability in Libya and called for coordinated local and international efforts to clear the way for Libyan national elections to be held as soon as possible. The two sides also agreed to refrain from taking any action that might incite violence and instability in Libya.

An unidentifiable drone was shot down close to the Benina facility in Benghazi, according to the Libyan army.
