82 %decrease in hydrogen sales inside America

Cars that run on hydrogen cells saw a decline in sales of 82% in the United States in the third quarter of 2022, which raises many concerns about their usefulness in comparison to electric cars, which saw a recovery and tremendous growth in its sales despite the constant talk of it as an intriguing option for the transition towards green energy.

Only 153 cars were sold in the third quarter of this year in America, according to the California Center for Hydrogen Cell Cars. This is a very poor performance given that sales were approaching a thousand units per quarter from the first quarter of this year through the first quarter of 2021.

Concerns about the viability of hydrogen cars grow in light of many of the issues they encounter, including their high cost, low overall energy efficiency, lack of infrastructure for recharging, small number of models, restricted geographic availability, and only availability in California.

Toyota preferred to sell 79 Mirai vehicles in the third quarter, but despite the preference, sales were 88% lower than they were in the same period last year. Hyundai Nixu came in second with 74 vehicles, and no other hydrogen-powered vehicles were sold.

Nearly 2000 hydrogen fuel cell vehicles have been sold in the United States so far this year, which is 28% fewer than last year. In contrast, 3341 hydrogen vehicles were sold in 2021, indicating that the total for 2022 will decline significantly from 2021 given the numbers and market growth.

Given its hegemony over the American market and the fact that Toyota has sold 75% of all hydrogen cars sold in America overall since the start of production, it appears that Toyota has partially succeeded in its endeavours. The BMW was specifically the most antagonist of hydrogen cars in the world in the recent period and considered it the most logical resort for new energy even from electric cars.

American hydrogen sales fell by 82%.
