Since the Muslim Brotherhood was founded in 1928 by Hassan al-Banna, the organisation has endured 94 years of history. During this time, the group has been outlawed numerous times, from the royal era until the founding of the Egyptian Republic.
Today marks the 68th anniversary of Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser’s announcement on October 29, 1954, that the Muslim Brotherhood would no longer exist as a result of a failed assassination attempt against it in the Mansheya affair.
The group was first banned by the Naqrashi government on December 8, 1948, which was the 19th anniversary of its founding and the 15th anniversary of the amendment to the Law of NGOs in 1932. The Naqrashi government accused the group and its members of inciting and working against the security of the Egyptian state with near-universal support.
