United Nations: Africa floods have displaced 3.4 million people

According to “Russia Today,” the United Nations said that the damage brought on by floods had forced more than 3. 4 million people to be displaced across West and Central Africa.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees said that the floods had killed hundreds and displaced thousands in Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso, and noted that the government in Chad- where flood water damaged more than a million people- declared a state of emergency.

According to the Commission, the greatest floods in 10 years hit Nigeria (West Africa), displacing 1. 3 million people and killing hundreds of people while affecting more than 2. 8 million others.
Water overflowed agricultural lands and infrastructure, forcing the survivors to move to high ground.
Many of them reside in refugee camps that were built to aid people fleeing the area’s rife violence as well as other issues.

Olga Sarrado, a spokesman for the UNHCR, said: “The current climate disaster is displacing people, ruining livelihoods, compromising food security, and escalating conflicts over limited resources. There is a strong and growing connection between climatic shocks and homelessness “.
