SaskMusic announces award nominees as 2022 comes to a close

The 2022 SaskMusic award candidates have officially been revealed, marking the culmination of two challenging years for Saskatchewan musicians.
Artists from across the province have been nominated for awards ranging from album of the year to country artist of the year and everything in between.

According to Lorena Kelly, interim executive director of SaskMusic, “they are our way of honouring and appreciating all the music that has been made in the province over the last year.”
“Frequently, the general population is unaware of the success that is occurring. And this was our method of making something accessible to the public so that people could hear more from these artists, possibly discover some new talent, and understand just how much talent we have in this country.

The awards ceremony is being presented by SaskMusic for the fifth time this year, and it is the first time in person since the pandemic started.
While SaskMusic will select the majority of the award winners, voting for other categories will begin on November 7, 2022.
The public may vote in the following categories:
According to Kelly, this year’s performance is an opportunity to highlight the emerging talent the region has, which not everyone may be aware of.

SaskMusic is reserving one performance slot during the awards ceremony to highlight up-and-coming artists. Any kind of artist under the age of 25 may submit an application.
We’re trying it out for the first time, and we love to support emerging artists, Kelly said.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity to support emerging talent and highlight someone who otherwise wouldn’t be able to obtain a spot since they’re not yet nominated.

However, who knows—perhaps they eventually will be.
The award ceremony will start at 7:30 p.m. on December 11, 2022, inside Regina’s Darke Hall.
Kelly also wishes for everyone of the fans and musicians to have the opportunity to listen to new music, regardless of the prize winners.
The rising tide raises all boats, as they say, Kelly remarked. As a result, “we hope that by recognising some of that wonderful talent, it will inspire people to… check out a lot more Saskatchewan music.”

As 2022 approaches to an end, SaskMusic presents the nominations for its awards.
