UN and European support for the government of Iraq … “trust is an important step”

News from Al-Madinah: After the Iraqi parliament granted confidence to the government of Muhammad Shi’a Al-Sudani, after a year of political commitment in the country, the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, and the European Union welcomed the formation of the new government.

The UN is still completely committed to helping Iraq, according to a statement from Guterres’ spokesman, who also urged the incoming administration to meet “the expectations that the Iraqi people have always advocated for change and accountability and a better future.”
Josep Borrell, the foreign affairs representative for the European Union, complimented the Sudanese on their new government and called it “an important step towards stability in the country.”

He emphasised that the Federation wants to collaborate closely with the new administration and support the execution of the announced reform programme and the fight against corruption.
He pointed out that the Prime Minister’s commitment to a balanced external policy and good relations with all Iraqi neighbors “opens positive horizons for the future”, stressing that the union will continue to support his country, its sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.

It is notable that the Sudanese administration received confidence from the parliament yesterday, Thursday, following the presentation of its ministerial programme, which received a unanimous vote.
The Sudanese (52 years old), a governor and a former minister of traditional Shiite political class, was charged on October 13th to form the government by the new President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Rashid, immediately after his election.
