The National Center for Translation, under the direction of Dr. Karma Sami, announced a competition to translate the great poet Fouad Haddad’s poem “Maour and the Paradise,” in which he begins his office “from the light of imagination and manufacture generations in the history of Cairo,” from Arabic to all languages of the world. This competition was held as part of the Ministry of Culture’s celebrations to name Cairo the capital of Islamic culture for the year 2022 and to commemorate Haddad’s
Up to November 30, 2022, those desiring to submit their translations of the poem along with a brief biography may do so by emailing the National Center for Translation.
The late Sayyid Makawi sang “Al-Masharati” and travelled the Arab world, spreading it and preserving it after presenting it on radio and television, making Fouad Haddad one of the most well-known colloquial poets. He attained wide fame with his words that found their way to the recipient’s and reader’s hearts and minds.
Although the late great poet had a wealthy upbringing and received his education in foreign institutions, he loved the popular formula of expression and was regarded as a professor when presenting it, making him the most significant colloquial poet. It’s possible that he played a part in this by spending his formative years in the Al-Zahir neighbourhood after being born to a Lebanese family there.
