Spokesman: Speaker Pelosi’s husband assaulted in break-in

Washington, D.C. Paul Pelosi, the husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, was “violently beaten” by an intruder who came into their San Francisco home early on Friday. He is still in the hospital and is anticipated to fully recover, according to her spokesperson, Drew Hammill.
At that moment, Pelosi wasn’t at home. According to Hammill, the attacker is in jail, and the reason behind the attack is being looked into.

“The Speaker and her family are grateful to the first responders and medical professionals involved, and request privacy at this time,” Hammill said in a statement.
Pelosi just arrived back in Washington this week after attending a security conference in Europe, and she and Vice President Kamala Harris will give the keynote address at an advocacy event on Saturday night.

While the circumstances of the attack are unclear, the incident raises additional questions about the safety of members of Congress and their families as threats to lawmakers are at an all-time high almost two years after the violent Capitol insurrection.
Despite receiving extra money for security at their residences, members of Congress have been under pressure to beef up security as more people have shown up at their doors and threats have increased.
