The Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, Dr. Ali Al-Moselhi, emphasised that white rice is readily available in consumer complexes and all food outlets for a cost of 10.5 pounds on ration cards at all ration ports, which total about 40.000 provincial outlets across all governorates of the Republic.
Al-Moselhi emphasised that the price of the recognised kilo ranges from 11 to 12 pounds, while the price of the rice is still pumped and distributed beyond the scope of ration cards from the side of commercial chains, supermarkets, and the small market.
According to Ahmed Kamal, the assistant minister of supply and internal trade who serves as the ministry’s spokesperson, the minister has instructed the Holding Company for Food Industries to pump large amounts of rice into warehouses owned by wholesalers on a daily basis so that it can be distributed to food commodity outlets.
According to the spokesperson for the Ministry, the Minister of Supply was given the go-ahead by the Ministry’s directorates and supervisory agencies to monitor the availability of rice across all food-sale sectors and make sure that everyone is committed to selling it in accordance with the Prime Minister Dr. Mustafa Madbouly’s decision.
