After multiple unsuccessful attempts to qualify for the World Cup, Qatar will become the fourth national team to play in the World Cup for the first time as a host when the tournament begins on November 20 of next year.
Qatar will host the 2022 World Cup finals in its first World Cup appearance, to become the third country to play the tournament for the first time as a host, after Uruguay in 1930, Italy in the 1934 edition and Chile hosting the 1962 edition.
Since its initial effort in 1978, Qatar, the Fifth Asian Classifier and No. 50 in the world according to the most recent FIFA rankings, has made several unsuccessful attempts to qualify for the World Cup.
The Qatar national team was eliminated from competition in the first round between 1978 and 1986, but it came incredibly close to playing in the 1990 World Cup in Italy because it was one point behind the UAE squad in the second round of qualifying for Asia.

South Korea, who qualified for the tournament in second place but had several weaknesses, finished third in the World Cup qualifying tournament conducted in Russia with a score of 7, while Japan finished third with 8 points.
